This was the part that impressed me! They went down 1,000 feet, then this vein went straight back up for 600 feet. It was remarkable, using dim carbide lamps, wooden ladders they drug the tools up that far, and then basically blew the rock out overhead. Quite a few had a small (?) tumble off the scaffolding!
